In a thrilling announcement, Oakland Athletics’ slugger Jake Kurtz and Atlanta Braves’ ace Tyler Baldwin have been named the 2023 American League and National League Rookies of the Year, respectively. The Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) revealed the winners, recognizing their dominant performances in their debut MLB seasons.
Jake Kurtz: AL Rookie of the Year
The 22-year-old outfielder wasted no time making an impact, posting a .287 batting average, 32 HRs, and 89 RBIs. His clutch hitting, including a walk-off homer against Houston and a four-hit game vs. the Yankees, solidified his status as Oakland’s rising star.
“This is just the beginning,” Kurtz said after winning. “I’m honored, but there’s more to accomplish.”
Tyler Baldwin: NL Rookie of the Year
Baldwin, 23, dominated on the mound, finishing 15-6 with a 2.78 ERA and 198 strikeouts. His complete-game shutout vs. the Dodgers showcased his elite potential.
Braves manager Brian Snitker praised Baldwin’s poise: “He pitches like a veteran.”
What’s Next for the Winners?
Both players join an elite list of past winners, including Mike Trout and Aaron Judge. Kurtz gives the A’s hope for the future, while Baldwin keeps Atlanta in World Series contention.
