New Delhi: In a major breakthrough in the Delhi Red Fort blast investigation, sources within the anti-terror squad have revealed that a self-incriminating video of the prime suspect, Umar Nabi, was recovered from his own mobile phone—a device he had ordered his brother to destroy.
This critical piece of evidence came to light after a panic-stricken attempt by Nabi to erase his digital footprint backfired, a senior official involved in the probe said. As investigators closed in, Nabi allegedly gave his smartphone to his younger brother with the urgent instruction: “Dump it. Get rid of it immediately.”
However, the instruction was not successfully carried out. Investigators managed to intercept and recover the device from the brother before it could be permanently lost or destroyed, turning a desperate cover-up attempt into a treasure trove of evidence.
The ‘Digital Smoking Gun’ on Nabi’s Phone
Forensic analysis of the recovered phone quickly unearthed what sources are calling a “digital smoking gun.” The device contained a video file featuring Umar Nabi himself, directly linking him to the Red Fort blast conspiracy.
While the specific contents of the Umar Nabi video are part of the ongoing investigation, it is believed to be a confession, a reconnaissance video of the target, or a message for his handlers.
“This is a monumental breakthrough,” the official stated. “Instead of piecing together months of circumstantial evidence, the suspect has provided us with direct, undeniable proof. The very device he sought to eliminate has become the star witness against him.”
Investigation Widens to Uncover Larger Network
The discovery of the video has dramatically shifted the focus of the Delhi Red Fort blast probe. The objective is no longer just to prove Nabi’s involvement but to use the video’s data to dismantle the entire network behind the attack. Investigators are meticulously analysing the footage and its metadata to identify co-conspirators, financial sources, and the plot’s masterminds.
The role of Umar Nabi‘s brother is also now under intense scrutiny. He is being questioned to determine his level of involvement—whether he was an unwilling pawn or a knowing accomplice in the attempt to obstruct justice.
This case serves as a powerful reminder of how technology is a double-edged sword in modern counter-terrorism. While digital devices are used to plan attacks, they also leave a digital trail that is incredibly difficult to erase. For Umar Nabi, his own phone has become the key evidence that could secure his conviction.
