Bollywood Stars Implicated in Ghaziabad Investment Scam
Ghaziabad, UP – An FIR filed in Ghaziabad has named 22 individuals, including veteran Bollywood actors Shreyas Talpade and Alok Nath, in a significant investment fraud case. The complaint alleges that a production company swindled an investor out of lakhs of rupees by using the actors’ names to add credibility to a fictitious web series project.
The complaint was lodged by Ghaziabad resident Ambar Sharma against the firm Kanak Entertainment and its director, Abhishek Singh. The police have registered the FIR under sections of the Indian Penal Code related to cheating and criminal breach of trust, launching a formal investigation into the matter.
The Allegations: A Web Series and a Promise of Doubled Returns
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Sharma was allegedly approached with a lucrative opportunity to invest in a web series titled “Pashmina.” The pitch was highly attractive: invest in the production and receive double the amount back in just ten months.
To build trust and legitimize the scheme, the company reportedly claimed association with several prominent names from the film industry. The complaint specifically alleges that the names of Shreyas Talpade, celebrated for his roles in Iqbal and the Golmaal series, and veteran actor Alok Nath were used to convince Sharma to invest a substantial sum.
However, after the ten-month period ended, the promised returns never appeared. Furthermore, the web series “Pashmina” showed no signs of ever entering production. Sharma claims that when he tried to recover his funds, the company director and his wife became unreachable, prompting him to file the investment fraud complaint in UP.
Police Investigation Underway
The central question in the ongoing police investigation is the nature of the actors’ involvement. It is yet to be determined if Shreyas Talpade and Alok Nath were aware their names were being used to solicit funds or if they were also misled by the production company. The Ghaziabad police will be summoning all 22 individuals named in the FIR for questioning to ascertain their roles.
So far, neither Shreyas Talpade nor Alok Nath has issued an official statement regarding their inclusion in the complaint. This case serves as a stark reminder for investors to exercise caution, as the allure of the entertainment industry is often used to mask fraudulent schemes. The investigation’s outcome will be closely watched as it could have significant implications for celebrity endorsements and associations.
