Journalist Murdered in Prayagraj, UP; One Attacker Nabbed in Police Encounter
In a horrific incident, journalist Rajesh Mishra (35) was brutally killed by unidentified assailants in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Mishra, known for his investigative reports on corruption and illegal mining, was ambushed and stabbed late Tuesday evening. The attack has sparked nationwide outrage over journalist safety in India.
How the Attack Unfolded
Eyewitnesses say Mishra was returning home on his motorcycle when three masked men intercepted him in the trans-Yamuna area. They dragged him off the bike and stabbed him repeatedly before fleeing. Despite emergency efforts, Mishra died en route to the hospital.
Sources confirm Mishra had recently exposed illegal sand mining and political-criminal ties, leading to threats. His family alleges powerful figures were involved in silencing him.
Police Encounter Leads to Arrest
Within 24 hours, UP Police tracked down and arrested Vikas Singh (28), one of the accused, after an encounter in Kaushambi. Singh allegedly fired at police, leading to retaliation—he sustained a leg injury and was taken into custody.
Prayagraj SSP Satish Kumar stated, “We have evidence linking Singh to the murder. More arrests are expected soon.”

Media bodies, activists, and opposition leaders have condemned the killing:
– The Editors Guild of India demanded an impartial probe, citing growing threats to press freedom.
– Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav accused the UP government of failing to protect critics.

Family Seeks CBI Probe, Fears Cover-Up
