India Strongly Rejects UN Report on Myanmar, Calls Allegations ‘Baseless’
India has firmly denied a recent United Nations (UN) report that accused Indian groups of supporting insurgents in Myanmar and falsely linked them to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the claims as “factually incorrect and unsubstantiated,” reaffirming India’s commitment to regional stability and non-interference.
UN Report’s Controversial Claims
The report, released by the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM), alleged that weapons and financial aid from Indian entities were being sent to rebel factions in Myanmar. It further controversially suggested a connection between these networks and the June 12 Pahalgam attack, which injured several civilians.
Indian officials criticized the report for relying on unnamed sources and unverified intelligence, calling it speculative and misleading.
MEA’s Official Response
In a sharp rebuttal, the MEA stated:
“The allegations are baseless and lack credible evidence. India adheres to sovereignty and non-interference. Such claims harm UN credibility and bilateral relations.”
India has actively supported ASEAN-led peace efforts in Myanmar and provided humanitarian aid, reinforcing its stance against external interference.
Pahalgam Attack: No Links to Myanmar
Security experts dismissed the UN’s attempt to tie the Pahalgam attack to Myanmar, noting that evidence points to Pakistan-based terror groups. A senior intelligence official told NextMinuteNews:
“The report’s claims are far-fetched and politically motivated. This was cross-border terrorism, unrelated to Myanmar.”
Diplomatic Fallout
The allegations risk straining India’s diplomatic efforts, particularly with ASEAN nations. Geopolitical analyst Dr. Priya Nair warned:
“Unverified claims could undermine India’s trust-building in Myanmar and fuel false narratives in multilateral forums.”
Next Steps: India Seeks Retraction
India has demanded the UN retract the disputed sections and plans to raise the issue at the UN Security Council, stressing the dangers of unfounded allegations in global diplomacy.
As the situation develops, India remains firm in defending its national security and diplomatic integrity against baseless accusations.
