From Bankruptcy to Street Food Empire: Rajesh Mehta’s Inspiring Journey
In a remarkable story of resilience, Rajesh Mehta, a 42-year-old entrepreneur from Mumbai, has turned his life around by starting a street food stall that now earns a staggering ₹25 lakh daily. The Fall and Rise of Rajesh Mehta
A few years ago, Rajesh was a successful businessman running a mid-sized manufacturing unit. However, economic downturns, poor investments, and mounting debts left him bankrupt. “I lost everything—my business, savings, and even my home. I hit rock bottom,” he recalls.
With just ₹10,000 borrowed from a friend, Rajesh decided to start over. He set up a small street food stall in Mumbai, naming it “Rajesh Ki Rasoi.” Inspired by his grandmother’s recipes, he began selling vada pav, a beloved Maharashtrian snack.
Innovation and Quality Drive Success
What set Rajesh apart was his creative approach. He experimented with unique fillings and chutneys, offering variations like cheese-filled vada pav, spicy Schezwan vada pav, and a vegan version. He also introduced combo meals, pairing the snack with refreshing drinks like kokum sherbet and masala soda.
Word of his delicious and affordable food spread quickly, and his stall became a local sensation. Rajesh’s commitment to hygiene and quality further boosted his reputation. “I wanted to prove that street food can be both tasty and clean,” he says.
Expanding the Menu and Empowering Others
As demand soared, Rajesh expanded his menu to include pav bhaji, misal pav, and dabeli. He also leveraged social media, sharing mouthwatering photos and behind-the-scenes videos to attract a loyal following.
Today, Rajesh’s stall earns ₹25 lakh daily and employs over 50 people, including former street vendors and unemployed youth. “I wanted to create opportunities for others who were struggling, just like I was,” he shares.
A Vision for the Future
Rajesh’s success has earned him media attention and speaking engagements at entrepreneurship seminars. He plans to open multiple outlets across Mumbai and launch a line of packaged snacks based on his signature recipes. “This is just the beginning. I want to take Rajesh Ki Rasoi to every corner of India,” he says.
