21 Killed as Hyderabad-Bengaluru Private Bus Catches Fire in Andhra
In a devastating accident, at least 21 passengers died early Sunday morning when a private luxury bus traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru caught fire in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district. The incident occurred around 5:00 AM near the Kurnool-Bengaluru Highway, leaving the bus completely charred and victims unrecognizable.
Eyewitnesses Describe the Horror
The Orange Tours and Travels bus, carrying around 50 passengers, reportedly caught fire near the rear section. Within minutes, flames engulfed the vehicle, trapping many inside.
“The fire spread rapidly—some jumped out, but others couldn’t escape,” an eyewitness said.
Police and firefighters arrived within 30 minutes but found the bus completely gutted. At least 21 bodies were recovered, most severely burned.
DNA Tests for Victim Identification
With many victims beyond recognition, forensic teams collected DNA samples and personal belongings to assist in identification.
“We are relying on DNA matching due to the severity of burns,” said Anantapur SP K.K.N. Anburajan.
Short Circuit Suspected as Cause
Early investigations suggest an electrical fault in the AC unit may have caused the fire, though fuel leaks or mechanical failure are also being probed.
“The bus was well-maintained, but technical issues can’t be ruled out,” a transport official stated.

– Ramesh Kumar (Survivor): “I barely made it out as flames spread.”
