Jaipur Horror: 12 Dead in High-Speed Truck Collision
A devastating accident on the Jaipur-Delhi highway late last night claimed 12 lives and left over 15 injured after a speeding trailer truck plowed into multiple vehicles near Shahpura. The tragedy triggered massive protests as locals blocked the highway, demanding urgent road safety reforms.
Eyewitnesses Describe Chaotic Scene
The collision occurred around 11:30 PM when the out-of-control truck smashed into cars, bikes, and a minibus near the Shahpura bypass. Survivors reported horrific scenes, with vehicles crushed beyond recognition.
“The truck was swerving violently—it hit everything in its path. I barely escaped by jumping off my bike,” said Ramesh Kumar, an eyewitness.
Rescue teams faced challenges extracting victims from the wreckage. Twelve bodies, including two children, were recovered, while the injured were rushed to hospitals in critical condition.
Highway Blocked Amid Public Outrage
Angry protesters paralyzed traffic for six hours, accusing authorities of ignoring repeated safety concerns.
“This isn’t the first accident here. Speeding trucks are a constant threat, but no action is taken,” said protester Vikram Singh.
Police assured action against the driver and a review of highway safety measures.
Driver Arrested, Investigation Launched
The truck driver, Harish Mehta (32), was arrested. Preliminary reports suggest fatigue or intoxication may have caused the crash. Authorities are also checking for overloading or brake failure.
Demands for Road Safety Overhaul
Transport activists called for stricter enforcement:
– Speed cameras
– Driver rest regulations
– Heavy vehicle monitoring
Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma announced ₹5 lakh compensation for victims’ families and ordered a safety review.
A City in Grief
