Rakibul Hasan’s Nine-Wicket Haul Stuns Khulna in NCL Opener
In a historic performance for Bangladesh domestic cricket, Rakibul Hasan announced his arrival for new team Mymensingh with a sensational nine-wicket haul in the National Cricket League (NCL) first round. The 24-year-old left-arm spinner dismantled Khulna’s batting lineup, finishing with career-best figures of 9/40 in just 13.5 overs.
Rakibul’s Dream Debut for Mymensingh
Playing his first match since switching from Rangpur, Rakibul dominated on a turning track at Mymensingh Divisional Stadium. His lethal spell bowled Khulna out for 111, setting up Mymensingh’s early dominance.
Key highlights:
✔ Five bowled/LBW dismissals – Rakibul’s accuracy bewildered batsmen
✔ Dismissed Khulna’s top order, including Anamul Haque and Nahidul Islam
✔ Second-best figures in NCL history, just behind Enamul Haque Jr.’s 10-wicket haul
Near-Miss for NCL History
Rakibul fell just one wicket short of becoming only the second bowler in NCL history to take all 10 wickets in an innings. The final wicket went to teammate Sharifullah.
“I didn’t expect such a dream start,” Rakibul said post-match. “The pitch helped, and I just focused on my areas.”
Mymensingh’s Strong Response
Backed by Rakibul’s heroics, Mymensingh posted 285 in their first innings, with Parvez Hossain Emon (89) and Mohammad Ashraful Jr. (56) leading the charge. Khulna struggled in their second innings, still trailing by over 100 runs at the time of writing.
National Team Prospects
With Bangladesh seeking new spin talent, Rakibul’s performance puts him in strong contention for a Test call-up. Former selector Habibul Bashar noted: “If he keeps this up, the national team will come calling.”
Mymensingh captain Zakir Hasan praised Rakibul: “He’s special—today proved it.”
What’s Next for Rakibul and Mymensingh?
This spell could be a turning point for both Rakibul and traditionally underdog side Mymensingh. If he maintains this form, a national debut might not be far away.
