Kremlin Denies Receiving US Peace Proposal for Ukraine
The Kremlin stated on Thursday that it has not received any official communication from the United States regarding a potential peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. The remarks cast doubt on recent reports of behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts.
Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for Russian President Vladimir Putin, told reporters, “We have not received any serious appeals on this matter from the American side.” He emphasized that while Russia remains open to dialogue, no concrete proposals from Washington have been presented.
Rumors of a US-Backed Peace Plan
Recent Western media reports suggested that the Biden administration and European allies were discussing a framework to negotiate an end to the war. Potential elements included territorial compromises and security guarantees, but no formal plan has been confirmed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly demanded a full Russian withdrawal from occupied territories, including Crimea. Meanwhile, Moscow insists any talks must recognize the “new realities”—referring to the four regions it annexed in 2022.
US and NATO’s Position on Ukraine Peace
US officials maintain that any agreement must be negotiated directly between Ukraine and Russia, with Washington playing a supportive role. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reaffirmed America’s stance that Ukraine should determine its own future.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg also pledged continued military and financial support for Kyiv. However, political divisions in the US and Europe over aid packages have raised concerns about long-term support.
Russia’s Demands for a Deal
The Kremlin has consistently demanded that any peace talks acknowledge its territorial gains—a non-negotiable condition for Ukraine and its allies. Peskov reiterated that Russia is willing to engage in diplomacy but will not abandon its strategic objectives.
Analysts suggest Moscow’s statements aim to portray itself as open to talks while blaming the West for stalled progress. “Russia wants to appear reasonable while setting conditions that Kyiv cannot accept,” said political analyst Tatiana Stanovaya.
What Comes Next in the Ukraine War?
With no official peace proposal in play, the conflict shows no signs of ending soon. Ukrainian forces brace for another winter of fighting, while Russia continues offensives in eastern regions.
The lack of direct US-Russia discussions indicates both sides remain entrenched. As the war nears its third year, millions of Ukrainians remain trapped in a prolonged humanitarian crisis.
