A Grim Discovery in Sitapur
Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh – A 35-year-old man has been arrested in Sitapur district for the alleged murder of his 60-year-old partner, Sarla Devi. According to police, the accused, Ramkumar Yadav, confessed to the crime, stating he was under immense pressure from the victim to marry her.
The investigation began after neighbours discovered the body of Sarla Devi inside her home on Tuesday morning. Seeing no signs of forced entry, police initially suspected someone known to the victim was involved.
Swift Arrest and a Shocking Confession
Local intelligence quickly led investigators to Ramkumar Yadav, who was reportedly in a relationship with the deceased. Police apprehended Yadav within hours from a nearby village where he was hiding.
During interrogation, Yadav allegedly confessed to committing the murder. He detailed a relationship that had become strained over the issue of marriage.
Motive Revealed: Unwanted Marriage Pressure
According to the police’s account of the confession, Yadav and Devi had been in a relationship for over a year. Recently, Devi began insisting that Yadav marry her to formalize their relationship. This demand became a significant source of conflict.
Yadav told investigators he felt trapped by the age gap and was unwilling to marry her. He claimed the pressure escalated recently, with Devi allegedly threatening to involve his family or file a police complaint if he refused. Feeling cornered, Yadav allegedly planned and carried out the murder during an argument over the matter.
Police Confirm Motive, Vow Strict Action
Sitapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Chakresh Mishra addressed the media regarding the case. “We have arrested the accused, Ramkumar Yadav, for the murder of Sarla Devi,” SP Mishra said. “The motive, as per the accused’s confession, was the victim’s persistent demand for marriage, which he was against. We have collected crucial evidence and are corroborating his statement. The law will take its strictest course.”
The local community has been left stunned by the violent crime and the unusual motive. As Ramkumar Yadav remains in custody, the investigation is ongoing to ensure all evidence is processed before formal charges are filed.
