Bengaluru Woman Dies After Alleged Mercury Injection by Husband
Bengaluru – In a horrifying case of domestic cruelty, a 34-year-old woman has died following a nine-month battle with her health, which she claimed began after her husband injected her with mercury. The tragic incident unfolded in a village near Hoskote, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, culminating in the woman’s death and the arrest of her husband for murder.
The victim, identified as Kavita, succumbed to her deteriorating health at a private hospital on Saturday. Her death marks the grim end of a prolonged and agonizing ordeal that her family alleges was a slow, deliberate poisoning orchestrated by her husband, Shankar.
A Nine-Month Ordeal of Pain and Suffering
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Kavita’s family, her suffering began nine months ago. She confided in her family that her husband, Shankar, had forcibly injected her with mercury, a highly toxic heavy metal.
Following the alleged incident, Kavita’s health began a mysterious and painful decline. She developed severe joint pain, skin rashes, and a range of other debilitating symptoms. Her condition worsened steadily, prompting her to move back to her parents’ home for care. Despite numerous visits to doctors, medical professionals were initially puzzled by her condition until her repeated claims about the mercury injection brought the horrifying allegation to light.
“She was in constant pain. Her body was giving up on her day by day,” Kavita’s brother told reporters. “She kept telling us what he did to her. He wanted her gone, and he chose the cruelest way possible, ensuring she suffered for months.”
Dowry Harassment Cited as Motive
Kavita’s family alleges that the motive behind this sinister act was dowry harassment. They claim Shankar had been pressuring her for dowry for a long time and wanted to remove her from his life to marry another woman. The constant abuse allegedly escalated into this diabolical plot to murder her slowly and discreetly.
Following her death, her family filed a formal complaint with the Hoskote police. A case has been registered against Shankar under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 302 (Murder) and Section 498A (Cruelty by husband or his relatives). The accused has been taken into custody and is currently being interrogated.
Investigation Hinges on Forensic Evidence
Police officials have stated that the investigation now critically depends on forensic evidence to corroborate the claims. The choice of mercury as a weapon is particularly insidious, as its effects are cumulative and can mimic other illnesses, making it difficult to trace.
“The allegations are extremely serious and of a very unusual nature,” said a senior police officer. “We have sent the body for a post-mortem. The toxicology report from the forensic science laboratory will be critical in determining the presence of mercury and establishing it as the cause of death.”
As Kavita’s nine-month fight for life ends, her family’s fight for justice begins, hoping to bring the truth of her agonizing final months to light.
